How to Film a Testimonial for Us With Just a Phone

A testimonial video for us is two clips from a phone. The first is you, talking for a minute about who you are, what you used for moving targets before, what training you run now, and what changed. The second is a wide shot of your range with you explaining a drill and one run of your people going through it. No crew, no microphone, no editing. Whatever you send is more useful to us than you would guess.

Part one: you, on camera

  1. Prop the phone up at the height of your face if you can. If it ends up lower, send it anyway.

  2. Hit record and say who you are and what you do.

  3. Say what you used for moving targets before this system. A person walking a stick back and forth in the pits counts; so does nothing at all.

  4. Say what training you run with it now and what the outcome has been. Fewer staff on the range, a skill that improved, a course you can now run: whatever is true.

  5. Stop. Do not re-record for a stumble. We stumble too, and it reads as real.

Say who you are, what you used before, what you train now, and what changed. Stumbling over it is fine.

Part two: the drill on your range

  1. Turn the phone to a wide shot that takes in the firing point and the target.

  2. Hit record and explain the drill the way you would to someone new: where the shooters start, where they stop, what moves, how many rounds, and how it is scored. The example in the video is a run back from the 100 m line to a pad, three rounds on a moving hostage head, scored on hits.

  3. If your cable is anchored somewhere unusual, point the phone at it and say what you did. Other ranges want to see that.

  4. Film one run of your people through the drill. That is the whole second clip.

The talking clip goes into our marketing so other ranges hear it from someone who is not us. The drill clip shows what a real range does with the system, which is worth more to a buyer than anything we could stage. Both take a few minutes of your day and help more than you can imagine.
