The DRX1 Electric Thermal Optic Target holds a persistent, human-signature heat picture on real AR500 steel. Set the temperature up to 100 C and train all night.
Programs spend thousands on thermal optics that can pick a coyote out of a treeline at 400 yards, then point them at cold steel and see nothing. The best optic money can buy, aimed at a target that does not exist. So instructors improvise. Hand warmers taped to steel that die in the cold. Foil tape that quits in bad weather. Fuel flares that cost money every single session. None of it holds a steady heat picture through a full night block. Your students end up shooting at a guess.
“[The] glow becomes a glowing patch and end up lacking precision in my zero as I can only best guess the middle of a rather large glow patch.”
“FYI - I tried today and can report tinfoil did not work @ 6 degrees and snowing.”
“I've used a similar ice target and it does work. Until you hit it. Then it explodes and leaves a large cold splash signature.”
Flip the switch and set your temperature. The DRX1 unit heats a 66% IPSC AR500 silhouette until it holds a persistent, human-signature heat picture in your optic. Every part of the electronics sits behind the steel. Getting shot is part of the design, not a failure. Clamp. Hang. Set. Engage.

Heat off on the left, heat on the right. The same steel through the same thermal optic at 50 yards, in daylight. Cold it barely reads. Heated it stands out like a live target.

We put the target downrange and filmed it through an Athlon Cronus ATS Pro from 100 out to 1,100 yards, at four power settings. No edits. This is exactly what the optic saw, with the yard line and power setting labeled on every frame.

Real through-scope captures. Higher power reads farther. At 90 watts the target still reads at 1,100 yards. N/A cells are settings we have not filmed yet.
| 100 W | about 5 hours (tested) |
| 90 W | about 5.5 hours |
| 70 W | about 7 hours |
| 50 W | about 10 hours |
| 30 W | about 16 hours |
| Runtimes below 100 W are calculated from the tested 5 hours at 100 W. Turn the power down and the same battery runs longer. | |
The full demo, start to finish. Real range, real thermal optic, live fire.
The heating element sits pressed against the back of the AR500 plate. The control box, the wiring, and the battery all hide behind the steel with it. Rounds hit rated steel, not electronics. If an element finally wears out, a spare is in the box and swapping one is a hand-tool job.

Tested at -40 C. Rain, snow, and dust are no issue at all. No open flame, no pyrotechnics, no fuel storage, no HAZMAT paperwork. It is an electric heater sealed behind rated steel. That is the list your range officer needs.

Yes. The DRX1 heated thermal target reads like a warm body, so any thermal optic that can see a person can see it. The footage on this page is real and unedited.
You set the temperature. It holds up to 100 C, which reads like a live warm silhouette in your optic.
The AR500 steel takes the hit. All the electronics sit behind the plate. One spare heating element comes in the box just in case. Need more later? They are sold on this page.
About 5 hours at full heat on one battery. That covers a full night block. Charging takes about 6 hours.
Yes. Zero on it at the distance you already use for steel. It reads in your optic from there out to as far as your optic can see heat.

Shane Primm, Instructor

Turns between three positions: front (shoot face), back (no-shoot face) and edge (bladed, nothing shown to the shooter).

Runs from a phone. The target makes its own Wi-Fi network called DRX1 Target. Join it, scan the QR code on the side of the unit, and the controls open in the phone's browser. There is no app to install. Phone control works to about 35 yards.

Buttons for front, back and edge turn the target by hand. Start a programmed drill and set how the target moves and the timings, switch to random mode, or record a sequence of turns and play it back for every shooter.

Put several targets along the firing line and run drills where different targets turn in different spots. The optional long-range remote runs up to 4 targets and was tested to 250 ft (76 m). Every target still works from a phone.
