What’s Inside the Hostage Rescue Target? Full Unboxing & Kit Breakdown

When it comes to training tools, knowing exactly what arrives in the box matters.

Departments and instructors want equipment that works out of the box, installs quickly, and holds up during real training. The Hostage Rescue Target System was designed with that in mind.

More than 2,000 police departments, military units, and training ranges are already using Dynamic Range systems to introduce movement into their training. If you’re considering adding the Hostage Rescue Target to your range, here’s a complete breakdown of what comes in the kit and how it all fits together.

Built and Shipped for Reliable Delivery

All products are manufactured in Canada and are USMCA compliant, which means shipments to the United States cross the border without additional tariffs or surprise import charges. What you pay at checkout is what you pay.

Inside the box, the first items you’ll find are the quality control checklist and user manual.

The quality control sheet confirms:

  • Who tested the system

  • Which inspections were completed

  • A checklist of everything included in the box

This makes it easy to verify that nothing is missing before your first range session.

Instruction Manual and Setup Guide

The included user manual walks through every step of using the system, including:

  • How the remote operates

  • How to install and replace batteries

  • How to mount the system to a post or structure

  • How to replace components if needed

It also includes instructions for running the different movement modes and maintaining the system over time.

Spare Parts and Accessories

At the top of the kit you’ll find a tackle box containing spare parts and tools. These extras help keep the system running even during heavy training use.

Included in the box:

  • A complete spare linkage assembly

  • Battery charger (standard wall plug)

  • Two lithium-ion batteries

  • Spare rubber bands for target head alignment

  • Basic tools for maintenance and adjustments

  • Zip ties for flexible mounting options

Mounting Hardware

The kit includes two sets of U-bolts and mounting hardware.

These are designed to attach the mechanism directly to the post holding your steel target. The U-bolts line up well with standard steel T-posts or fence posts, which are commonly used on shooting ranges.

If the system needs to be mounted somewhere unusual, the included heavy-duty zip ties allow instructors to secure it to barriers, walls, or other structures.

The Hostage Rescue Target Mechanism

The centerpiece of the kit is the fully assembled target mechanism.

This unit includes:

  • The internal motors that control movement

  • The linkage arm that moves the target head

  • The battery compartment and on/off switch

  • Mounting points for U-bolts or zip ties

Because the mechanism arrives assembled, setup is quick. In many cases, it can be installed in just a few minutes.

Disposable Target Heads

Each kit includes 10 disposable reactive target heads. These heads are made from corrugated plastic that chips when hit.

The chipped surface makes it easier for instructors to see impacts from the firing line. When the heads become too worn, replacements can be ordered in packs of 20.

Wireless Remote Control

The remote arrives ready to use with its battery already installed.

It allows instructors to control the system from a distance and run different types of drills. The main control is the joystick, which moves the target head in real time.

The remote also includes several training modes:

  • Manual joystick control

  • Record and playback

  • Random movement

  • Sweep / Pan pattern

  • Vertical Pop-up pattern

These modes allow instructors to run anything from controlled drills to unpredictable scenarios that force quick decision-making.

Ready for the Range

The Hostage Rescue Target kit is designed to keep setup simple while still providing realistic training capability.

With the mechanism, mounting hardware, spare parts, batteries, and remote included in one package, most departments can install the system and start running drills within minutes.
