We get this question a lot — “Are the target heads made of steel?”
The short answer: No. Not even close.
The replaceable reactive target heads are made from corrugated plastic, not metal. They’re designed to give instant visual feedback when hit, tear cleanly, and swap out in seconds. Because they’re lightweight and offer almost zero resistance, they won’t damage the arms or linkage system.
Here are the most common questions we get:
Are the reactive heads made of steel?
No. They’re made from corrugated plastic, similar to the material used in outdoor signage, but cut in a way that reacts visually when hit. This keeps the system safe, lightweight, and easy to reset.
Will bullets damage the moving arms behind the silhouette?
Very unlikely. The linkage and moving parts sit behind your AR500 silhouette, and the corrugated plastic heads offer almost no resistance to bullets. They’re meant to break, not protect, so the energy doesn't transfer to the mechanism.

Why use corrugated plastic instead of something thicker?
Because the purpose of the head is feedback, not durability. Our replaceable target heads give you a clean, instant mark when hit and can be replaced in seconds. Using metal or a dense material would add weight, create ricochet risks, and put unnecessary strain on the moving parts.
How long do the reactive heads last?
It depends on how often you run drills, but they’re designed to be disposable. Each system comes with a pack of 10 heads, and replacement sets are available in the shop.
Do I need tools to swap them out?
Nope. Each head is designed for a quick, simple change so you can keep your training moving without downtime.
