The DRX1 Electric Thermal Optic Target holds a persistent, human-signature heat picture on real AR500 steel. Set the temperature up to 100 C and train all night.
Programs spend thousands on thermal optics that can pick a coyote out of a treeline at 400 yards, then point them at cold steel and see nothing. The best optic money can buy, aimed at a target that does not exist. So instructors improvise. Hand warmers taped to steel that die in the cold. Foil tape that quits in bad weather. Heat off on the left, heat on the right. The same steel through the same thermal optic at 50 yards, in daylight. Cold it barely reads. Heated it stands out like a live target.
We put the target downrange and filmed it through an Athlon Cronus ATS Pro from 100 out to 1,100 yards, at four power settings. No edits. This is exactly what the optic saw, with the yard line and power setting labeled on every frame.
Real through-scope captures. Higher power reads farther. At 90 watts the target still reads at 1,100 yards. N/A cells are settings we have not filmed yet.

The heating element sits pressed against the back of the AR500 plate. The control box, the wiring, and the battery all hide behind the steel with it. Rounds hit rated steel, not electronics. If an element finally wears out, a spare is in the box and swapping one is a hand-tool job.
Tested at -40 C. Rain, snow, and dust are no issue at all. No open flame, no pyrotechnics, no fuel storage, no HAZMAT paperwork. It is an electric heater sealed behind rated steel. That is the list your range officer needs.
