HOSTAGE RESCUE TARGET SYSTEM · MADE IN CANADA
Train the hostage shot on a target that actually moves.
A motorized head ducks behind an AR500 silhouette and moves on your command, so officers rehearse split-second precision under live movement instead of standing on a flat range. It comes from Dynamic Range X1, the moving-target company that has, in their words, "helped over 2,000 military units, police departments, and ranges upgrade their training by adding movement."

WHY MOVEMENT MATTERS
Nobody you train for stands still.
A flat, static target teaches a flat, static response. In a real encounter the threat moves, the hostage moves, and the window to make a clean shot opens and closes in a fraction of a second. The Hostage Rescue Target puts that movement on your range so your shooters learn to read it, get off the X, and break a precise shot under pressure.
"About as realistic as it gets. With the movement, that's a real situation. I've been in law enforcement for 30 years. Nobody stands flat-footed in a fight."
— 30-year law-enforcement officer
Trainers use it for the 21-foot rule, Tueller drills, no-shoot/hostage scenarios, and force-on-force prep. It runs preset patterns, random movement, or live joystick control from up to 300 feet away.
HOW IT WORKS
A moving head, hidden behind your steel.

The system mounted at the range behind a standard AR500 steel silhouette. Real range photo, not a render.
The system mounts behind a standard AR500 steel silhouette (66% or 100% IPSC). A reactive "hostage head" rides on aluminum linkage arms and moves on your command. With the steel in place, the arms can't be hit — they stay tucked behind the plate, so your shooters train the real problem: a clean shot on the moving head with no margin for error.
Idea credit goes to a former sniper who first asked us for it. A prototype we set up on the side at a Michigan SWAT challenge went on to draw over 9 million views.

CONTROL
Six ways to run it, from one wireless remote.
One joystick and four buttons. The official store lists four modes; the full system actually gives you six distinct ways to drive the head.
01
Joystick control
Move the head anywhere in the normal zone, live, from up to 300 ft.
02
Extended reach
Tap the joystick (blue light on) to push the head past its normal limits. Off, the system keeps the linkages safely behind the steel.
03
Random
The head alternates between start and random positions, holding for random intervals. Tests reaction and restraint.
04
Pop-up
The head rises and drops on a steady rhythm for timed exposure drills.
Remote walkthrough — joystick, extended reach, record & playback
300 ft of wireless range covers nearly every pistol and carbine hostage-rescue distance. Need farther? The remote can be extended; ask us about your range.
05
Sweep
The head tracks a repeating arc for moving-target lead practice.
06
Record & playback
Record a movement pattern with the joystick, then loop it so every shooter runs the same scenario.

We used it for Tueller Drills for our Sheriff's Office. It was very eye opening for our deputies. Taught them to get off the x! Programming also allows us to use it for a no shoot target that floats behind our target line.

I absolutely love this X1. It's extremely challenging to shooters, especially when you add a hostage target in the mix.

I own this system at my range in Georgia- I use it with my Safari hunters to prep for safaris, LE and Military for a variety of skills development, my rifle team for competition prep and my civilian clients for EDC skills development- it's worth the investment. Feel free to check us out at Liberty Training for confirmation

I have used mine for 2 full days now and love it! It adds a whole different aspect to training you can't normally receive at a standard range. We were able to practice moving and shooting where the target is moving too. We practiced shooting standing still with the target moving and vice versa. This thing just opens a whole new world. I love it! Everybody keeps making comments asking what happens if you shoot it, what about this, what about that, and generally trying to find fault. My take on it is, the people buying this product will typically be a better shot than to miss a 2' x 3' target hanging off of the bottom of the unit. People who are willing to invest this kind of money into equipment like this are going to be people who are familiar with their firearms and can hit a target. People who can't aren't going to buy it. Plus, if you do shoot the unit then you need to find you a stationary target and focus on that before you try to move to this. You don't need to be shooting at a moving target.

We got The Dynamic Range X1 for our sheriffs office. Have say I, along with the other deputies, we were impressed with them. I attached a pole to the hitch of my Tahoe, and the other end to back stop which made it so versatile. The 21' foot rule was an eye opener for the guys and gals. I highly recommend adding these to your course of fire. It goes great with the turning and static targets. FYI I was concerned about someone shooting the machine, like others had mentioned, but only one shot was close, however it was officer error. And customer service is phenomenal. I had one that wasn't working just right, within 4 days of me notifying them of the issue, they had sent me a replacement. Plus they even walked me through programming process while I was on the range.

as someone who trains with Hood's Handgun Training and Whiskey Hotel who both use your product, I will say it is a game changer to go to that next level of training! Getting to use them at close range to 100-125 yds is the max I've had experience with they are a blast and hard to beat as a training tool. The ease of setup is great and being involved behind the scenes with them and checking them out the repairability of your equipment is great! It's inevitable that something like this is going to get hit. Your design ensures it is not super expensive or hard to fix parts which to me makes it a good long term investment for the tool like this. Especially for training company's! Keep up the great work!

The wider training community has weighed in too: Warrior Poet Society ("Very fun drill, very fun system… Well done."), UDT Scottsdale ("one of the best things you can buy"), and Shore Shot Shooting Academy ("if you're not practicing with moving targets, you're missing the boat").

STRAIGHT ANSWERS
The questions buyers actually ask.
The steel takes the rounds. The mechanism rides behind it. Here is the honest version of every concern we hear before a department buys.

After a session: the AR500 face wears the impacts while the drive head stays tucked behind it.
“Won't I just shoot the machine?”
With the steel in place, the moving arms stay hidden behind the AR500, so they can't be hit — the people buying this can hold a 2'×3' plate. And if any part ever does take a round, it's a low-cost modular swap, not a dead system. The customers who worried about this most went on to buy a second unit.
“Does wind move it around?”
Agencies have run it in 20+ mph sustained wind and from 7°F to 87°F with no problems. Add the recommended counterweight (the newer base uses a 2×2) and it holds steady. One sniper instructor ran it flawlessly in 15–20 mph wind during an urban class.
“Is $925 worth it, and what about replacement parts?”
It runs roughly one-tenth the price of comparable powered movers (for example, a BlinkTroll), and the parts that wear are cheap and modular. Replacement heads and linkage arms are stocked. You're buying a transportable, programmable, agency-proven system, not a one-off prop.
“Is it hard to set up?”
Under 15 minutes, no post-hole digging. The base does the work — pick it up, drop it where you need it, and start a new scenario in seconds. Watch a full setup:

WHY $925 HOLDS UP
A powered, programmable mover for the price of a few cases of duty ammo.
01
The transportable dynamic system
It travels. No fixed install, no trenching — it deploys on any range and stores in a shed or conex.
02
Cheap, modular parts
Heads, arms, and bands swap with the included allen keys. Wear is a cheap part swap, not a new unit.
03
Record once, run everyone
Program a scenario and every shooter runs the identical drill. Repeatable, fair, measurable.
04
Proven on agency ranges
Departments, sheriff's offices, and named training companies run it weekly, in all weather.
05
Real support, fast
One customer had a replacement on the range within four days, walked through programming by phone.
06
Backed both ways
1-year warranty and a 60-day money-back guarantee. Train on it; if it's not right, send it back.
Comparable powered movers run into the thousands and bolt to one spot. This is about one-tenth of that, and it fits in your trunk.

FAQ
Before you buy.
Answers pulled from the manual and the questions real customers ask. Still unsure? Send us a note or call 330-765-5029.

A reactive head after a session. Heads are consumable and cheap to replace.
Is the AR500 steel included?
No. The system mounts behind a standard 66% or 100% IPSC AR500 silhouette, which is sold separately, so you can use steel you likely already own.
Won't shooters hit the mechanism?
With the steel up, the moving arms stay behind the plate and can't be hit. Any part that ever does take a round is an inexpensive modular swap. See the answers section above for the full story.
How do I set up the 550 cord / mounting?
The unit attaches with U-bolts and wing nuts to a wood or T-post, or zip ties to a 4×4. The manual walks it step by step, and the setup video shows it. If your team gets stuck, call us and we'll talk you through it.
Can I save and reuse movement patterns?
Yes. Record & playback lets you program a pattern with the joystick and loop it, so every shooter runs the same scenario. Turning the system off clears the saved pattern.
How often do I change the battery?
About 90 minutes of continuous movement per charge. High wind and heavy speed shorten that, so agencies running all-day cycles swap batteries roughly every 90 minutes.
Does it work in cold and wind?
It's been run from 7°F to 87°F and in 20+ mph sustained wind with no problems. It's IPX2 weather-resistant but not waterproof, so don't operate it in rain.
How far does the remote reach?
Up to 300 feet out of the box, which covers nearly all pistol and carbine hostage-rescue distances. Ask us if you need it pushed farther.
How does shipping and the warranty work?
Ships from Canada, USMCA-compliant, so it crosses the border with no tariffs or surprise fees. It carries a 1-year limited warranty and a 60-day money-back guarantee.
Can my agency try it before buying?
Yes. We travel across the U.S. and Canada through the year, so you can email info@DynamicRangeX1.com to coordinate a live demo, or set up an online demo.
Can my department pay by purchase order / get a quote?
Yes. Email info@DynamicRangeX1.com or call 330-765-5029 for an official quote your purchaser, lieutenant, or range master can act on.
